Q: Can any special grooming be done purely for shown purposes?

Answer: For show purpose the seen on the coat of short-haired breeders is improved by a final smoothing over with a chamois leather or even repeated hand stroking. Exhibitors of long-haired breeder often wipe the fur with a cloth lightly dampened with a very dilute solution of household ammonia (six drops in half a pint) and finished off by ‘polishing’ the fur with a piece of silk or velvet wrapped around their hand.
