Answer: In contrast to human, cats have much more acute hearing and able to produce and detect ultrasonic sound. The human ear can detect sound with wavelengths up to about 20 KHz; wavelengths greater then that are said to be ultrasonic. Because of the structure of its inner ear the cat is able to detect ultrasonic sounds up to frequency of 60 to 65 KHz.
However, the cat is rather less sensitive to the lower frequencies, being able to hear sound when minimum wavelength of 30 Hz compared with the human lower limit of around 20 Hz. As with all species, acuity of hearing diminishes with age; cats may be almost completely deaf.
