Answer: At birth the edges of the upper and lower eyelids of the kitten are finally united. Separation of the eyelids usually occurs five to ten days after birth. In Siamese cats may open as early as two or three days after birth, but sometimes not until twelve days in domestic cats. If the lids continue to remain tougher after that time it is considered abnormal. So if the eyes of kitten are not after frothing, a veterinary surgeon should be consulted.
Closure of one or both eyes in an older shouldn’t be ignored because this often happens in case of eye infection. The eyelids become stuck together with discharge, and pus, containing multiplying be ceria, accumulates at the back of the eyelids. If neglected, the eyeball may be permanently damaged. An attempt should be made to gently bathe the eyelids apart, but if any difficulty is encountered the cat should received veterinary attention without delay.
